Close to 1,000 service staff at Rogers Arena looking for new jobs the NHL as the Canucks will be ending their contract with Aramark.

Effective June 30, 2014, Canucks Sports and Entertainment is ending its contract with Aramark, the company that provides concession services at Rogers Arena.

Aramark claims that their contract is valid until 2015 and will fight the decision.

Rogers Arena’s chief operating officer Victor de Bonis hinted that big changes will be coming to the arena’s food and drink services. An announcement will be made July 1. They also plan on hiring 1,000 new workers.

Aramark employees earn between $13 and $18 an hour. There have been concerns that the new positions will not pay as much.

Currently the Canucks have not said what the wage range will be for the new hires.

Speculation is that the Canucks’ ownership will launch their own food and beverage business, thus no longer needing the services of Aramark.

The concourse space will be expanded as the office/residential tower currently under construction will house a large Canucks Sports Bar. With the pending arrival of that, ownership would probably want to run that along with all food and beverage programs in the arena.
